Easy Homemade Blueberry Sauce Topping Recipe—You’ll want to drizzle this super easy, delectable blueberry sauce over everything, and I don’t just mean pancakes! This recipe works with fresh blueberries as well as frozen ones.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (frozen blueberries work great!)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar and cornstarch. Add the water and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Keep stirring and boil for about 3 minutes. Stir in the blueberries and reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the blueberries pop and the mixture thickens.
  3. Stir in the butter until melted, and the sauce is glossy.
  4. Serve warm or cold. See the post for serving suggestions. Enjoy!

Notes

How to Store

  • Cool: Allow the blueberry sauce to cool to room temperature before storing it.
  • Transfer to a Container: Transfer the sauce to an airtight container or a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Refrigerate: Seal the container tightly and refrigerate the blueberry sauce. It can typically be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Optional: Freeze for Longer Storage: If you want to store the blueberry sauce for a longer period, you can freeze it. Pour the cooled sauce into an airtight freezer-safe container or freezer bag, leaving some space for expansion, and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Thawing: When ready to use, thaw the frozen sauce in the refrigerator overnight or gently reheat it over low heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally until heated through.
