Classic Italian Panettone Recipe-Christmas  Cake

This traditional panettone recipe is the perfect holiday treat! It is a tender lemony sweet dough studded with candied fruit and raisins. This panettone recipe is a must-try for everyone who loves to bake.

Ingredients

Make and prepare the dough started and cover then, allow it to rest in a warm place for 8-12 hours.

Step 1

Prepare and combine the mix-ins. Then, let them rest overnight.

Step 2

Combine and mix the dough started, half of the flour, water, and yeast using a stand mixer. Knead, cover, and let it rise.

Step 3

After 1 hour, add and mix the rest of the flour.

Step 4

Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

In a bowl, beat the egg yolks, salt, and sugar until fluffy and creamy. Then, add the honey, candied orange, and zest mixture.

Step 6

Slowly add the egg-candied orange mixture to the dough. Beat until sticky dough forms.

Step 7

Add small bits of butter at a time to the dough and gently mix in the raisins. Then, move the dough to a greased bowl.

Step 8

Cover the dough and let it rise. Fold and shape the dough, then place it in a well-buttered or sprayed panettone pan.

Step 9

Let the dough rise in a warm place until it reaches over the rim of the mold.

Step 10

Let the panettone cool  by hanging it upside down or in a cooling rack.

Panettone Recipe Tips:

Use room temperature ingredients.

Be patient with the dough rising. 

Hydrate the raisins in a bit of water.
