Ingredients

Scale
Burger
- 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat for juiciness)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Black pepper to taste
Burger Sauce
- 1/3 cup of ketchup
- 2/3 cup of mayonnaise
- Black pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 tablespoon of mustard
- Optional: 1/4 cup of dill relish
Burger Toppings
- 4 brioche burger buns (or buns of choice)
- 4 slices medium cheddar cheese (thick sliced)
- 1 large tomato, sliced into 8 rings
- 8 leaves green leaf lettuce
- 1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced into rings
- 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
- Additional ideas: blue cheese spread, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms,
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. See notes for the stovetop method.
- Make the burger sauce by combining all the desired ingredients in a small bowl and mixing until well combined. Test flavor and adjust to preference.
-
Add the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix by hand until the meat mixture is smooth.
- Divide the ground beef mixture into 4 parts in the bowl.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, wax paper, or aluminum foil. One at a time, form patties with your hands (or a burger press)—about 1/2- 1″ thick (depending on your preference for a thick or thin burger) and a little wider than the burger buns.
- Place patties on the baking sheet. Use a spoon, or your thumb, to press a dent in the center of each burger patty (this prevents a puffy center as they cook). Add a little more salt and pepper to both sides.
- Place the patties on the hot grill and cook for about 2-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting the time for your desired doneness. Flip burgers when juices start to gather on top of the burger and you have a good sear. Avoid flipping multiple times.
- Optional: Add cheese slices during the last minute of cooking and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
- Toast the burger buns on the grill for a minute or two until they are lightly browned.
- Assemble with burger sauce and desired toppings and enjoy your perfect juicy hamburgers!
Notes
Stove Top Hamburgers:
- Preheat a cast iron skillet or pan over medium-high heat.
- Prepare burger patties as directed above.
- Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer a more well-done burger.
- Optional: Add cheese slices on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking and cover with a lid to melt the cheese. Toast the burger buns in the pan for a minute or two, until they are lightly browned.
- Assemble your burgers with any classic burger toppings.
