Combine sugar and butter in a pan and cook until thick.
Add the vanilla, spices, and salt to the saucepan.
Pour the caramel sauce into the baking pan.
Slice the apples and arrange them in a circular pattern in the pan.
Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl, beat the butter and sugars.
Combine and mix the wet and dry ingredients.
Add the batter on top of the layers in the pan.
Bake the cake. Scrape the sides and invert the cake into the plate.
