Mother Tongue

It happens the moment I land in the Roma, Italia airport and I hear, โ€œbuon giornoโ€. My heart skips a beat as the romance of the Italian language touches my ears. The sound, melody, and fluidity of the language create a dance inside my soul. Itโ€™s a connection since birth, as my mother tongue reminds me, you are home.

Language is a Dance

The roaring voices from conversations in all directions creates a chaos my ears yearn to hear. Language is more than a form of communication. Itโ€™s a sense of style, a state of mind, an expression you feel. Every language dances to the beat of a unique drum. My brain switches from one language to the other interchangeably, like a step, slide, and step waltz.

Deeper Meaning of Language

Digging even deeper in language, regional dialects and accents create a specific connection to a geographical place.
In Sardegna we speak with โ€œun accento Sardoโ€. When I travel outside of Sardegna to other parts of Italia Iโ€™m always reminded of my southern Italian accent! A personal element Iโ€™ve grown to love and cherish.

Is it possible for language to also feel like a place?

Language thatโ€™s Alive

Even when I speak and hear Italian at home in America, it doesnโ€™t seem to sound the same. Maybe itโ€™s the energy I feel from the compilation of different voices speaking Italiano that makes my heart dance?
Whatever it is, I know the sounds of my mother tongue takes me to a place I love.

My goal is simple- make mealtime doable and answer โ€œwhatโ€™s for dinner?โ€ with recipes you'll make forever. No chef skills needed, I promise! Start with a family favorite, Italian Pear Cake.
