Creamy Baked Chicken Thighs FAQs

Should I cover my chicken thighs while baking in the oven?

I recommend leaving them uncovered while baking in the oven to allow the skin to crisp up. Otherwise, the skin will steam and won’t be as crispy.

How long should I bake creamy chicken thighs?

The chicken thighs are cooked through when they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness. It should take about 20-25 minutes for bone-in, skin-on thighs to cook through if you seared it first and bake it at 375°F (190°C).

How do you store leftover creamy baked chicken thighs?

These chicken thighs in the sauce will last in the fridge for about 4 days.
You can freeze cooked chicken thighs for up to 5 months. (Freeze the sauce separately from the baked chicken thighs.) To freeze, use a freezer-safe container, leaving space for expansion, and thaw in the refrigerator before reheating. When reheating, ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Try using the leftovers to make this chicken orzo soup!

Serving Suggestions

These creamy baked chicken thighs pair well with pasta, creamy Parmesan rice, red skin mashed potatoes, or no knead ciabatta bread to soak up the creamy sauce. Round out the meal with side dishes like Longhorn crispy Brussels sprouts or pear gorgonzola salad, and enjoy a dessert like Italian apple cake, peanut butter bars (frosted) or banana cream pie to finish off your meal.

My Pro Tips

Expert Tips

  • Allow the chicken thighs to come to room temperature before cooking. This ensures even cooking and helps the chicken stay juicy.
  • Sear the chicken thighs in a hot pan with oil to achieve a golden-brown crust. This step locks in juices and adds a delicious texture to the skin.
  • After searing the chicken, deglaze the pan with chicken broth. Scraping up the flavorful browned bits from the bottom adds depth to the sauce.
  • Achieve a balanced and velvety sauce by slowly incorporating the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Keep the heat lower to prevent splitting, and stir continuously to prevent lumps.

These thighs were so tasty! They were full of flavor and were tender and juicy. The recipe was easy to follow. The thighs I used were quite large so I had to double the seasoning ingredients in order to season both sides of the thighs generously. Thanks for another great recipe!

This dish was so easy to make. It was packed with flavor. My entire family devoured it. My husband and I had it over mashed potatoes and my kids had it with pasta. Cannot wait to make it again!

    1. I love it over mashed potatoes or pasta to soak up the delicious sauce! Yumm. I’m happy everyone loved it!

  3. 5 stars
Loved the ease and flavour of this recipe. My chicken thighs were smaller than the ones shown, I used 7 but should have used more or cut the sauce down as I had a lot of it. Have frozen the leftover sauce and hope that it thaws well and I can just sear the chicken and then add the sauce. This one is a keeper.

The chicken came out very tender and juicy. But I felt it was a bit lacking flavor from the sauce to eat with the chicken. So I added some Italian seasonings and thickened its sauce.

I love your recipes as always.
